The Pits

My youngest begins his hockey career this year and he is actually quite excited about it. I view this as an important and necessary ingredient for him. Until now Sam has always wanted to play with us on the rink but he's never really been interested in skating. For this reason we decided to wait an extra year and keep him in skating lessons. This plan seems to be working so far.

His enthusiasm about going to the rink continues and he repeatedly tells us how he "loves to play hockey." Actually, I think he is doing quite well myself. He is also showing a certain amount of independence that isn't always there. His older brother thought he was being helpful yesterday when he tried to carry Sam's bag for him. Seeing Sam's obvious resistance Mom piped in "Justin, let him do it himself." Sam now feeling the weight of his Mom behind him furthered his case by saying, "Yeah! or else after hockey I'll make you smell my arm pits!"

Had this threat been made the other way around it may truly have been a threat, but in this case it was just plain cute. In a disgusting boy sort of way.
